Blogger or Wordpress? Which Blogging CMS Platform is Better When Creating Blogs?

Overview: Firstly, why listen to me? Well, I have over 20 blogs registered and hosted all over the internet. Most of my blogs are with either Google's Blogger or with Wordpress. Most of my blogs are with Blogger but don't let that sway you - at least not yet. Hear my full story. Obviously I have my own opinions and I have the opportunity to collect a lot of facts being a published and accomplished Blogger. Yes there probably other Bloggers out there in the Blogosphere that are likely more experienced and competent but I believe I will give you a firm foundation on the issues and considerations so that YOU can decide for yourself.

Blogger and WordPress are similar in that both blogging platforms are often categorized as a subset of Content Management Systems "CMS", or more specifically as blogging platforms. Blogging platforms should not be confused with other more general form of content management systems like Drupal, Joomla, Xoops, or Mambo.

With respect to blogging, there are two main categories that bloggers are concerned with, one being a hosted version and the other is a non-hosted version which required the selection and registration of a domain name. The hosted versions are WordPress.com and at Google's Blogger:

2. Blogger.com

Hosting Blog Solution: the hosted versions of Blogger and Wordpress offer many advantages to the individual first starting out online blogging. The first and foremost attraction to both Wordpress and Blogger are the ease in which one can get started and have their first post drafted and published in an little as 5 to 10 minutes.

Selection criteria with differ with each blogger but will be generally restricted to three main areas when making an informed decision as to whether or not Wordpress or Blogger will be the best suited blogging publishing platform for your particular needs and objectives. When referring to these issues, I will divide them into three main categories: Blogging platform, needs and objectives, reader benefits.

Wordpress or Blogger? This decision is essentially three-fold: the first decision criteria really depends upon the needs of the blogger and the blogs objectives, while the second component of your decision will be limited by the constraints imposed by the individual platforms (WordPress or Blogger). Finally, the last decision criteria surrounds the end-user, those readers that will be directly benefiting from the objectives of the blog. The intersection between all three selection criteria and their interactions will ultimately assist the blogger in making an informed decision as to whether a WordPress or Blogger blog platform is best.
